About China Sculpture Research Center

The first of its kind on the Chinese mainland, the China Sculpture Research Centre is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to academic research on Chinese sculptural art.
The research centre serves as an academic hub for the studies in the history and theories of Chinese sculpture. It will organize academic events and Chinese sculptures exhibitions as well as important contemporary sculpture shows. It will also promote artistic and cultural exchanges between Chinese sculptors and their international counterparts besides building up an archive comprised of books, documents on Chinese sculpture and Chinese sculptors.
The research centre focuses on researching the history of ancient China sculptures, history of modern China sculptures, art trends and major artists in contemporary China sculpture, urban sculptures and landscape art, sculptural art theories, contemporary public art and art systems.
The research centre, having been prepared since May 2006, was registered February 2007.The research centre is devoted to promoting the studies and development of Chinese sculptural art, in collaboration with the China Sculptors Society, the Creation and Research Institute of Sculptural of Central Academy of Fine Arts, and other academic institutions.
The research centre has invited a roster of top-notch sculpture historians, theorists in sculptural art, art critics, and famed sculptors to act as its guest research fellows who will discuss about the future of Chinese sculptures, give appraisals for specific research projects, and mastermind art events and exhibitions. The research centre promotes the research projects on China sculptures through subsidies, events sponsorships, publication grants, and scholarships.
Yin Shuangxi, Doctor of Fine Arts and a veteran historian of modern China sculptural art, acts as the director of the research centre. Sun Wei, a renowned Chinese sculptor, and Sun Zhenhua, Doctor of Fine Arts and historian of ancient Chinese sculptural art, serve as the vice directors.
Guest research fellows at least include Professor Zeng Chenggang, chair of Chinese Sculptors Society, Professor Sui Jianguo, dean of Department of Sculpture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and professor Luo Shiping with School of Liberal Arts of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Since its inception, the research centre has planned and organized a large-scale retrospective show of master sculptor Liu Shiming’s sculptures and has published Liu Shiming’s album featuring both photos of Liu Shiming’s sculptures and academic theses on Liu Shiming’s sculptural art.
On-going projects in the research centre at least include the compilation of such fundamental documents as “A Collection of Academic Papers on 20th Century China Sculptures” and “A Chronicle of the Events in 20th Century China Sculptures.”
The research centre is seeking applications of research projects from the scholars at home and abroad on Chinese sculptures.
Also, the research centre has participated in researches about Zeng Zhuyun, a well-known 20th century Chinese sculptor and has engaged itself in organizing cultural exchanges worldwide to promote Liu Shiming’s sculptural art and gathering documents and research materials about 20th century China sculptural art.
The research centre is looking for partners from home and abroad to push forward the research and development of China sculptural art.
The research centre is soliciting charitable sponsorships for academic researches while seeking applications of subsidies for research projects on China sculptures.
