BANGKOK -- A photo exhibition featuring the May 12 earthquake in China's Sichuan province and the ensuing rescue work was held Tuesday in Bangkok.

Hundreds of pictures taken at quake-hit sites chronicling the suffering of the people and China's rescue and relief efforts were on display.

More than 69,000 people were killed in the 8-magnitude earthquake, with nearly 375,000 injured and 17,516 others still missing as of Tuesday, according to China's State Council Information Office.

A Thai policeman saluted a photo showing Chinese army soldiers rescuing victims of the disaster, while many other visitors had tears in their eyes as they saw the photos.

The exhibition, themed "Brotherhood", was organized by one of Thailand's largest civilian charities -- the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

The foundation's chairman, Hu Yulin, said he was impressed by how the Chinese people, government, military and people from around the world including overseas Chinese, have made their joint rescue efforts a memorable example of coordinated disaster relief.

The photos exhibited were provided by the Photographers' Association of Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan.

Poh Teck Tung Foundation, established by Chinese immigrants almost a century ago and well known among the Thais for its volunteer ambulance service in the event of any disaster, has donated 4.6 million Thai baht (some 150,000 US dollars) to victims of the May 12 earthquake.
