Postscript

　　Thanks to efforts of Chinese and British parties, the 2012 Chinese Oil Painting Art Exhibition was held in late July 2012 in the exhibition hall of the London Olympia west hall. The exhibition as an important nation-level oil painting show was first held in London. It attracted global attention. About one hundred works were on display, which have been compiled into an album.

　　The exhibition coincided with the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Chinese capital city, host of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, is a sister city of London. The British Olympic Association accordingly opened an exclusive site in the newly built Olympia Centre in London’s West End, so Beijing could demonstrate Chinese modern culture to the world. Hence, masterpieces of Chinese oil paintings were proudly exhibited in London, since the Beijing Culture and Art Foundation and Beijing Guozijian Oil Painting Art Museum organized the show. As an important window to display Chinese culture and art at a globally eye-catching venue, the exhibition held much significance to international cultural exchanges.

　　Chinese oil paintings could boast of one hundred years of history and have made unprecedented advancements, especially after China started to implement its national reforms and opening up policies more than 30 years ago.

　　Albeit a considerable gap remains between our paintings and the world’s masterpieces, Chinese oil paintings have achieved substantial artistic progress by blending oil paintings’ unique expressive force with our national aesthetic concepts, as well as revealing the inner world of the Chinese people. Chinese oil painting art has become one of the most influential artistic classes in China. Nevertheless, the Chinese oil painting circle should reinforce its influence and competiveness in a broader global cultural background. Consequently, our aim was to hold the Chinese Oil Paintings Exhibition in London that reflected a cultural and modern spirit of the Chinese people’s inner world through high-quality oil paintings.

　　Chinese oil painters appreciated the opportunity to show their best works to the arts’ committee for appraisal and selection. Nearly 100 classic and creative works were chosen, representing various styles and schools of contemporary Chinese oil paintings. Regretfully, some larger-sized oil paintings lost a chance to be included, due to the limited size of exhibition space. However, the exhibition still embodied tremendous features of Chinese oil paintings.
